Walk The Plank  – September 17

Every day children with cancer face their fears. They face uncertain Doctor’s appointments, scary treatment days, and treatment cycles that could go for months. During this time families are separated and they are alone and away from their important support networks.

We are challenging you to face your fears for Childhood Cancer Support and Walk the Plank at the top of the Story Bridge in Brisbane.

Grab your crew and fundraise for Childhood Cancer Support and provide a home away from home for regional kids with cancer.

How you can Walk the Plank

To celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day 2021, South East Queensland Corporate Groups & School Students over the age of 10 are given the opportunity to “Walk the Plank”. This is a great way to finish term 3 for students and a great team building exercise for Corporate groups while helping raise funds for Childhood Cancer Support. All you need to do is raise $750 for each Corporate team member and $600 for each school team member.

Bosses Behind Bars

Postponed Due to COVID Restrictions

A fun charity event raising funds to give regional families a place that looks and feels like home during their child’s cancer treatment. Childhood Cancer Support is a small charity making a big difference in the lives of young cancer patients and their families. Funds raised will help to keep these families together, removing some of the financial stress during the toughest time of their lives. Bosses will be locked up in Queen Street Mall and released once their Bail money is raised.

Each boss will be committing to raise enough funds to give a young regional family a home away from home for a minimum of two weeks during their child’s cancer treatment ($1,750).  Some will choose to accept a bigger challenge of raising even more.

christmas party

Family Christmas Party

Christmas is a special time for most of us, but for families who have children with cancer, it can be a daunting holiday. Childhood cancer is an unfortunate reality for the families living at Childhood Cancer Support, and when family and friends reside long distances away, the financial and emotional stress can turn this special time into another worry.

Postie Bike Safari

Each year we get together and ride our Postie bikes around regional Queensland,

usually for a week and cover about 2,000 km.

We raise funds for a chosen charity,

through donations, raffles, and auctions.

We have been doing a ride somewhere in Queensland for the past 7 years

and have raised just over $300,000.

We usually have around 30 riders and 5 or 6 support vehicles.

Our fundraising has helped out many charities and now it’s Childhood Cancer Support’s turn.

Each year’s ride has some sort of theme.

This year we will be visiting the Undarra Lava Tubes hence the name “Go with the (lava) flow”

We will be departing Mackay on Saturday 21st August and finishing at

Airlie Beach Saturday 28th August.

Coffee, Cake and Chat

Each week families are able to come together around our playground for a complimentary coffee, cake and chat with our Family Social Worker.  Our Coffee, Cake & Chat events allows families the opportunity to be in a warm and nurturing environment with other families alike and provide support to one another. It is also a time to forget about hospital appointments and enjoy the social aspects of being with other families.

It is a lovely environment where our children are playing in our outdoor playground whilst parents can chat and get to know each other. Many long-standing friendships have been forged at Childhood Cancer Support with our families around our social events.

We also invite guest speakers to talk with the families about issues relevant to their cancer journey.

Monthly Family BBQ’s

On the last Friday of each month, Childhood Cancer Support offers a free BBQ for all families. It is an evening where the parents and children can unwind, eat a sumptuous steak cooked on the BBQ and sample delicious accompanying foods, plus enjoy one another’s company in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our BBQs are run by volunteers, who provide this service with much love and dedication to our oncology families.

School Holiday Program

School Holiday Program

Our Family Social Worker organises activities each school holiday period for the resident families and those families who have previously stayed with Childhood Cancer Support. These activities are for all family members and are different each holiday period. Activities include arts and crafts, cooking, in-house movie days, excursions, sports or competitions. Our Family Social Worker makes the activities inclusive for patients and their siblings and ensures that if a patient wants to attend but needs some support or assistance, that appropriate arrangements are made.

Additional services

We also offer the following supports for families:

  • Free groceries or cooked meals delivered each week from OzHarvest
  • On-site gym (new equipment recently arrived!)
  • Community room/space for family gatherings or play space for the kids
