General Manager

Helen Crew

Helen Crew has dedicated her career to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Since joining Childhood Cancer Support as General Manager in March 2016, she has brought more than 30 years of experience in the charitable and community services sector, coupled with a deep passion for supporting families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.

Helen’s professional journey began in the construction, security, and engineering industries, where she played a key role in major projects, including the redevelopment of Daydream Island. However, it was her transition to the non-profit sector that allowed her to channel her expertise into causes that truly change lives. With a strong background in governance, finance, human resources, grant writing, and operations, she has been instrumental in strengthening the foundations of numerous organisations. Her 13-year tenure at the Australian Spinal Research Foundation saw her lead vital initiatives in administration, research funding, finance, and event management.

As Chief Executive Officer of Parkinson’s Queensland, Helen’s leadership delivered transformative outcomes. She secured long-term government funding, spearheaded a national rebranding campaign, expanded community support networks by 40%, and implemented strategies to improve organisational efficiency.

At Childhood Cancer Support, Helen’s compassionate leadership has been at the heart of the organisation’s growth. She has overseen vital improvements in governance, facilities, and service delivery, ensuring that families feel supported and at home during some of their most difficult times. Her commitment to securing funding has resulted in over $2.1 million in grants, enhancing accommodation facilities, patient transport services, and introducing crucial mental health and counselling programs.

In 2023, Helen’s dedication was nationally recognised by Fundraising Institute Australia, receiving the Impact on a Shoestring and Most Outstanding Fundraising Project awards for Childhood Cancer Support’s Feels Like Home Grants Program.

Helen’s leadership is not just about strategy and results—it is driven by a genuine commitment to care, community, and making a lasting difference in the lives of the families she serves.

Family Support Services

Accommodation & Family Support Officer

Linda Beale

Linda has been with Childhood Cancer Support since November 2025, working as our Accommodation and Family Support Officer. In this role, Linda provides practical accommodation support and compassionate, non-clinical care to paediatric oncology families, helping them feel safe, supported and at home while their child undergoes treatment in Brisbane.

Raised on a wheat and sheep farm in regional Western Australia, Linda learned early the importance of community, resilience and caring for others. She left home to attend boarding school and later university, beginning a lifelong commitment to supporting children and families. Linda trained as a Registered Nurse and Midwife, gaining extensive experience across both country and metropolitan hospitals, where she supported families through some of their most vulnerable moments.
Building on this strong healthcare foundation, Linda later obtained teacher registration and worked extensively in community kindergartens and early childhood settings across Queensland. This diverse background has given her a unique and holistic understanding of family dynamics, child development, and the importance of nurturing environments during times of change and uncertainty.

Throughout her career, Linda has been deeply committed to caring for children and families with empathy, respect and kindness. She feels privileged to walk alongside families during times of difficulty and challenge, and is passionate about ensuring families staying with Childhood Cancer Support feel welcomed, supported and never alone. Linda is delighted to be part of the Childhood Cancer Support team and plays a vital role in supporting families during their childhood cancer journey.

Community Fundraising & Events Specialist

Pat Hooper

Pat Hooper joined Childhood Cancer Support in June 2019 as Community Fundraising & Events Specialist, bringing extensive experience in community fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and event delivery across the not-for-profit sector.
In her role, Pat is responsible for developing and delivering a strategic community fundraising and events program that drives sustainable revenue growth while increasing the organisation’s profile, reach, and engagement across Queensland communities. Her work focuses on building strong, long-term relationships with community fundraisers, corporate supporters, and volunteers, ensuring they are well supported and empowered throughout their fundraising journeys.

Pat oversees the end-to-end planning and delivery of Childhood Cancer Support’s signature events and campaigns, from concept development and scoping through to execution, evaluation, and growth. Her approach combines strong financial discipline with meaningful storytelling, community connection, and measurable impact.

With more than 25 years’ experience in fundraising and community engagement, Pat has previously held senior fundraising roles with the Leukaemia Foundation for 14 years and the Endeavour Foundation for four years. During this time, she led the local delivery of large-scale national fundraising campaigns and events, most notably World’s Greatest Shave, contributing to a national program that generates more than $17 million annually. Pat also managed and mentored regional fundraising teams, supporting them to achieve ambitious targets and strengthen community relationships.

Pat began her fundraising career in Bundaberg with the Endeavour Foundation and has also operated her own small business, bringing a strong commercial and relationship-driven perspective to her work. She later returned to the not-for-profit sector with the Leukaemia Foundation, transferring to Brisbane in 2011, before joining Childhood Cancer Support, where she continues to play a key role in driving growth, innovation, and community impact.

Philanthropy Manager

Sally Gardner

Sally is our Philanthropy Manager responsible for relationships with our Major Donors and Bequest Donors, and assisting the Campaign Director with the implementation of the “Closeness Matters” capital campaign. Sally’s main responsibility is to develop and deliver effective fundraising activities that motivate and inspire people to support Childhood Cancer Support, with a focus on the capital campaign and developing a Gift in Wills strategy.

Following an earlier career in Human Resources and Training, Sally has joined Childhood Cancer Support with over 15 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, primarily in Community Services, Children’s Healthcare and Medical Research. She has previously worked to support families at Legacy Brisbane, The Children’s Hospital Foundation and QIMR Berghofer in Philanthropy roles.

Volunteer & Operational Support Coordinator

Amanda Moles

Amanda joined Childhood Cancer Support in July 2025 as our Volunteer & Operational Support Coordinator.

In this role, Amanda is responsible for recruiting, training and supporting our valued volunteers, while also providing vital operational support across the organisation. She plays a key role in nurturing a strong, engaged volunteer community that underpins the services we deliver to families.

Amanda brings over 10 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector and previously worked for four years as a Volunteer and Program Coordinator with Cancer Council Queensland. She also has hands-on experience volunteering within childhood cancer services.

Her commitment to supporting families affected by cancer is deeply personal. Amanda’s younger brother was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2007 at the age of 12 and survived following treatment. During this time, Amanda spent much of her teenage years at the Monash Children’s Cancer Centre in Melbourne supporting her brother and family, giving her a firsthand understanding of the challenges families face throughout a cancer journey.

After relocating to Brisbane in 2016, Amanda now proudly calls the city home. Her professional background spans a wide range of industries, including events and health seminars, patient support helplines, support group facilitation and management, as well as insurance, banking and hospitality.

Amanda feels privileged to be part of the Childhood Cancer Support team and is deeply passionate about building and nurturing strong volunteer relationships. She firmly believes that volunteers are essential to the success of the organisation and to the care and support provided to families.
